Large "Saurüssel" Roaster In Green Glaze

Large, early Austrian roaster, c.1820, formed from half a turned jug, with built up and shaped rim, flattened base, and applied strap handle. Pale yellow body with dark green exterior glaze and lighter green interior glaze. Darkened with use. The name Saurüssel, or pig's snout, refers to the opening for pouring off the fat during cooking.
